Orginal store and hearse delivery car in 1944 |
Nielsen's Florist and Garden Shop is a third generation run family business, established in 1944 by Christian and Hilda Nielsen. They purchased a small flower shop and an old hearse as a delivery vehicle and went into business. The main structure of the small shop that housed the original store still stands today and is located at the west side of the building.
After Christian's death in 1949, his wife Hilda continued to run the business well into the 1970s. During this time, their only child Gerald Nielsen Sr., grew up learning the business. He gradually took over management as his mother got older, meanwhile acclimating his own children to the operations. Today, his children carry the tradition of the Nielsen Florist business.
